Labour Force Historical Review 2009 Catalogue # 71F0004XVB

• This annual product is a comprehensive database of Labour Force Survey estimates, containing thousands of cross-classified data series and spanning more than three decades, generally starting from 1976. Monthly and annual average series are available on a wide range of subjects, including labour force status by demographic, education and family characteristics; trends in the labour markets of metropolitan areas; economic regions; data by industry and occupation, wages and union membership; and much more.

2007 SAAD Family and Individual Tax Filer Data

• The 2007 Family and Individual data release (from Stats Can) has been postponed indefinitely from June 30th, 2009. Statistics Canada has implemented a new system that has resulted in a longer delay than originally anticipated, and their programmers are working very hard to rectify this unexpected situation. They can not specify an exact data of release at this time.

Canadian Business Patterns Data for December 2008 now available at the Census Subdivision and Census Tract level geography.

• The five (5) new files are embedded within the current zip file (CBP200812.zip), to access them you must download the new file through the data catalogue and unzip the file on your computer. The three new files are prefixed with CSD and CT for Census Sub Divisions and Census Tracts, respectively.
• For the new Census Tract level ".ivt" file Statistics Canada changed the numbering convention for Census Tracts and as such we were not able to group Census Tracts by CSDS member. The geography dimension in this file is a long list of all Census Tracts where the first three digits of the Census Tract number correspond to the CMA in which the Census Tract is located and the last 6 digits correspond to the specific CT.

New Data in the Searchable Data Catalogue:

• Labour Force Historical Review 2008 - The uploaded zip file contains the entire Labour Force Historical Review with January 2008 data added. (search hint: select "Labour Force Historical Review" from the Data Source drop down and hit search, one of the results will be the new file)
• Semi-Custom (Geography) Census Profiles - Census Profile for Ontario Custom Geographies updated to include London custom geographies & new Census Profile for Vancouver custom geographies.
• Topic Based Tabulations - 13 new tables on the topics of Language and Households at the DA level, CT level or Montreal Custom geography levels.

Data Update Note:

• The Census Profile .ivt tables in the catalogue had lost their geography "groupings" during a January update, these have been fixed for all geographies except Dissemination Areas (which are to be fixed next week).

New Data in the Searchable Data Catalogue:

• Canadian Business Patterns - December 2008

This release includes National, Provincial, CMA, and CD level counts of businesses broken out by NAICS 2007 classification.

Note from Stats Can:

The Business Register Division would like to replace counts of establishments with counts of locations in the CBP. The December 2008 issue of the CBP will include both. The reason for the change is that location better represents the "place of business", i.e. where the operations take place. For example, an establishment in Toronto may have three locations in Ontario (Kitchener, Waterloo, Ottawa), they are all accounted for in the Toronto establishment. Also, the System of National Accounts '93 document is currently being reviewed and is going to recommend the location level to surveys instead of the establishment. The December 2008 edition will be the only one to compile both location and establishment counts. Beginning with the June 2009 Canadian Business Patterns, only location counts will be provided. Counts of establishments will still be available as a special request.

Beginning with the December 2008 edition of Canadian Business Patterns, census subdivisions (CSD) will no longer be available as a geographical area. The decision to remove this variable was based upon the volatility of the counts between the different versions of the CBP (specifically with regards to rural areas), especially when changing to another geographical standard. Units would move from one CSD to another, not due to actual changes in physical location, but due to changes in linkages between a specific CSD and postal code.

Update

• The table EO1213_2006_TGP_6A_CMA_CT has been corrected and updated in the CSDS Catalogue. On March 5, 2009 the table, EO1213_2006_TGP_6A_CMA_CT (Target Group Profile of Female Lone Parents of Selected Census Metropolitan Areas, Census Agglomerations and Census Tracts, 2006 Census) was found to have inconsistencies, it has been replaced. Please be advised to update your downloaded versions of this table.
